Andrew Harvey

I met the elfin 81 year old Alain Daniélou on a cloudless late october afternoon in Paris at his apartment on the boulevard Kellermann.
He is exquisitely mannered, wry and elegant, amused and sharply amusing, with a face that time has transformed into a Noh mask.
Over a lunch of fresh fish, and fruit from his garden near Rome, we spoke of old Benares and the India of the princely states, of Bellini and Cocteau, of the hilarious and sad follies of modern gurus and their disciples.
....
His own serenity and the depth of his love for what he calls the "divinity of presence" filled the afternoon with a lucid and illusionless joy.
